2 Gates

The normal state for a gate is closed. Here’s a gate doing its duty.

This gate is gate in memory only. Most of the adobe wall it once served is gone.

APRIL 17 – 7:00 PM — Good Samaritan Village — GRIGGS MUSEUM. by Frank Parrish. The museum is now part of La Posta Restaurant. The museum was in the northwest corner of the building, once known as the “Grape Room” for all the plastic grapes hanging from the ceiling. Don’t miss it.
The Griggs museum was a great loss, George Griggs death was a great loss. The Griggs family were pioneers. George had a Ph.D. in geology and wrote on that subject extensively. He also wrote History of the Old West, republished with an extensive foreword by Katie; about $5 on the Internet.
Remember the north door into the Restaurant? It was about half way between the east and west ends of the building. Remember when Katie inside La Post had a lighted neon “COCKTAILS” sign over that door, and when you opened it … it opened to the street …. and across the street you saw the “JAIL” sign. Always good for a laugh at the expensive the uninformed.
That was the jail that held Billy The Kid during his trial. Apparently he was returned each night to the strong-room in the Amador Hotel which was built of adobe walls four or five feet thick. It was inside the grand hall, at the northwest corner.
